Rift anyone

Being a tight git, I recently unsubbed from World of Warcraft and started playing Rift instead (cos its now free!) and to be honest, it knocks WoW into a cocked hat, better graphics, the same gameplay, it just rocks.

I'm very tempted by this.

In fact I'm gonna download it tonight!

I used to play Lineage 2 a lot back in the day and this looks similar in a lot of respects!

You should download it, the shard I'm on is Gelidra, and look for Aislan and I'll give you a few platinum for your first horse, yes, you can ride at level 1. Also the real fun feature that opens up at level 10 is Instant Adventures, basically you'll be level adjusted (if need be) and dumped into a 20 man raid, even as a DPS I've never had to wait more than 30 secs. Basicly its just very rapid questing with up to 19 other dudes, most of what you get thrown at you is the quests you'll get anyway, much easier than soloing the content.

Started playing today, looks pretty cool.

Running through a test character for now.  Need to do a lot of reading up on the game.

What sort of character did you go for Gordony?

My main is a rogue, but its not like a WoW rogue, it's more like WoW hunter, pure ranged DPS with a pet.

What shard are you on, theres only 2 EU PVE shards, Zaviel and Gelidra, roll on Gelidra and I can help you out, thats as long as you roll on the Guardian faction. My 2 Defiants there are only level 12s.

That's the server I'm on.  And yes I'm a guardian.  Made a warrior then realised I prefer archers :-p

As to where you are, that depends on your level, providing that youve left the starting area, lvl 5/6 then youre in Divine Landing, lemme know youre name and I'll come and lead you to the Horse vendor.

Here's a dishearteneing fact, the levelling slows down a good bit at 10, a bit more at 20, more still at 30, even more at 40, not looking forward to the slog between 50 and 60, even though its plastered over their forums that they have eased it to be more in line with the lower levels. FFS make it like level 1-10, kill a monster and ding

Haha. I played lineage 2.  Took a week of raids to get up a level!  Solid week.  

My Archer is Bastie.  Think he's level 14.  Still getting used to the differences from lineage.  A lot more in depth this game.  Really cool though.

You'll also want to get yourself some professions, the 3 best suited to a huntard like you are Weaponsmithing, Mining (cos you're gonna need a ton of metal) and Foraging (cos you're gonna need lots of wood to make your bows with). On top of those 3 you can also have cooking (known as Survival in this game) and Fishing, they're not strictly necessary but do give you another daily to do.

You can find trainers for those at Argent Glade and at Sanctum

Perfect, pretty sure I'm at Sanctum now.

Just so you know, to use the Auction House to sell stuff you need to actually part with real life money (its only a fiver and its only once) to buy some gems from the online Rift store. Happily the bulk of these gems can be used to unlock another bag slot on your character what you do with the rest is up to you, but 3 bag slots and your backpack is probably enough as some bags are frikken huge.

I'm a little overwhelmed by how many NPCs are and what they do etc.

Lineage was much more straight forward with that respect haha!  Still, running and shooting is ace! 

The ones you want are all on Bahrait Street, to the left of the big building entrance, the bank is there as well, the auction house is down the other way, look in there and drool over some of the high level goodies. Also I'm glad you're enjoying it, I'm enjoying not paying Blizzard £9 a month for what is essentially the same game.

I need to make tin ore 

You need to mine it, south half of Silverwood, look in your spellbook 'P', scroll down and make sure to press Track Ore. It'll appear as little light blue diamonds on your mini map, run about and mine as much as you need for the quest. Back to Argent Glade and go to the Forge, that on the North side of the Inn, then just smelt it into bars.

How do you add as a friend?

That would be 'O' for Online.
